DR TLALENG MOFOKENG obtained her medical degree (MBChB) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban and now runs a women’s health clinic, DISA, in Johannesburg.
She is a thought leader and contributor to 5FM and Metro FM’s Sexual Health radio features, the ‘Let’s Talk About Sex’ columnist for the Sunday Times, and is internationally published in The Guardian, Teen Vogue and Project Syndicate.
Dr T says that the field of sexual and reproductive health chose her during her community service year when she worked in the West Rand clinics in Johannesburg. Most of her patients were young women and, in true Dr T style, affirming of sexual pleasure, she made them feel comfortable to share their sexual health and relationship concerns. This ignited the spark in Dr T to pursue a career advocating for and defending sexual and reproductive rights and health for women and children.
Her areas of interest are Public Health Policy, Advocacy, Global Health Politics and health content production. She sits on a Global Advisory Board for Sexual Health and Wellbeing (GAB-SHW), Sex Worker Education and Advocacy Taskforce (SWEAT).
She has briefed congress at the U.S Senate on the impact of the Global Gag Rule. She presented the first ever civil society statement on behalf of 256 global organizations at the United Nation’s Human Rights Council on using Human Rights law for access to safe and legal abortion.
She was recognized as one of 120 under 40 generation of leaders in family planning by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Most influential African in Science and technology 2017 and Personal development in 2018.
She has presented a keynote address to 350 delegates during Capitol Hill days in 2018 in Washington D.C on the global health policy, Global Gag Rule and was panellist at a webinar at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2017.
She is a visionary and inspiring leader of her generation, who is recognized for catapulting performance in every role during a fast track career.
